Diploma of Sport and Recreation (Marketing)

This course is for people who work in or want to work in the sport and recreation industry specialising in marketing.

You will develop business, leisure and sport, legal, risk management and Customer relations core competencies and will be able to transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical skill to a range of situations.

You will acquire planning and coordination skills within a sport and recreation context and will learn how to manage people, environmental performance and projects. You will also develop skills oriented towards the Marketing of a recreational facility.

This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.

Entry Requirements
Completion of Year 12 or equivalent or Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies or currently employed in the Industry

Program Duration
Full Time:  18 months       Part Time: 36 months
  • Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
  • Industry placement occurs in 2nd and 3rd semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
  • Hands-on components occur throughout the course

Teaching Methods
Teaching methods comprise supervised classroom learning, lectures, supervised practical components, work experience/practical placement and field trips.

Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable.  If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Qualifications granted by AFC are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). AFC National Training Provider No. 31717

Course Structure
The course structure of the Diploma of Sport and Recreation (Marketing) comprises twenty-four (24) units of competency from the national qualification. The 24 units are made up of:
  • nine (9) core/compulsory units
  • five (5) specialist units
  • ten (10) elective units specialise in Marketing.
The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Diploma of Sport and Recreation (Marketing) is 770 Hours.

N.B. If a student is attempting the Diploma of Sport and Recreation (Marketing) without having completed the Certificate IV Sport and Recreation (Marketing), the student will be required to complete a further 5 pre requisite units.
