Certificate II in Sport and Recreation (Management)

This course is for people who work in or want to work in the sport and recreation industry specialising in Management.

You will develop business, leisure and sport, legal, risk management and Customer relations core competencies and will be able to transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical skill to a range of situations.

You will acquire planning and coordination skills within a sport and recreation context and will learn how to manage people, environmental performance and projects. You will also develop skills oriented towards the Management of a recreational facility.

This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.

Entry Requirements
There are no minimum education requirements for this course although it is expected that the student be employed or actively engaged in their chosen sport.

Program Duration
Full Time:  6 months       Part Time: 12 months
  • Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
  • Industry placement occurs in the 2nd semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
  • Hands-on components occur throughout the course.
N.B. Face to face and correspondence courses can be tailored to an individual or group’s specific needs and requirements. Teaching Methods
Teaching methods comprise supervised classroom learning, lectures, supervised practical components, work experience/practical placement and field trips.

Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable.  If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Qualifications granted by AFC are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). AFC National Training Provider No. 31717

Course Structure
The course structure of the Certificate II in Sport and Recreation (Management) comprises a minimum of nineteen (19) units of competency from the national qualification. The 19 units are made up of:
  • five (5) core/compulsory units
  • nine (9) a selection of specialisation units
  • five (5) elective units
The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Certificate II in Sport and Recreation (Management) is 384 Hours.

N.B. If a student is attempting the Certificate II in Sport and Recreation (Management) without having completed the Certificate I in Sport and Recreation, the student will be required to complete a further three (3) extra pre requisite elective units must also be completed.
