Certificate III in Fitness

Entry Requirements
A demonstrated interest in the health and fitness industry. Where competition for places is high completion of Year 12 and/or vocational education will be well regarded

Career Opportunities
Registration as a fitness instructor under the Fitness Australia National Fitness Registration Scheme, You will eligible to apply for registration (gym instructor, group fitness instructor, aqua fitness instructor categories, leisure centres and community health centres).

Program Duration
Full Time        6 months
(approximately 24 hours contact per week)

Part Time       22 weeks
Study includes two weeknights (Monday and Wednesday) from 6-9pm and some Saturdays.

Delivery Methods
This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning, online learning at students' self pace or by correspondence and can also be offered as a traineeship.

Assessment Methods
The assessment for the Certificate III in Fitness- Gym, Group Fitness and / or Aqua Instructor covers a range of formats to fully prepare the applicants for each topic area. Study plans are included to assist students in learning with regular practice assessments and tutoring services available.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Course Structure
The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course. Units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement saying how many you must do.

The Certificate III in Fitness qualification is competency based and workplace focused.

The Training Package rules require achievement of 24 units of competency for attaining the Certificate III in Fitness as follows:
  • nine (9) core/ compulsory units
  • ten (10) stream units
  • one (1) specialisation unit
  • four (4) elective units.
Students will be programmed to complete a minimum of 1 specialisation areas, i.e. Gym Instructor, Group Fitness Instructor or Aqua Fitness Instructor. Students may also choose to complete 1 or both of the remaining specialisations in order gain registration in all Certificate 3 fitness categories.

The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Certificate III in Fitness is 747 Hours.
