Diploma of Facility Management

This course is directed to the Facilities Manager whose responsibility it is to lead the individual work areas and to carry out the operations of the Facilities Management Unit efficiently and effectively. The course prepares Facilities Managers to manage the operation of the Facilities Management Unit as a whole.

This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.

Entry Requirements
Participants need to be currently working in an environment related to the coursework (or be intending to do so), or be able to access a suitable work-based environment.  It is recommended that participants should have achieved Year 12 or equivalent level in English and mathematics.

Program Duration
Full Time:  12 months       Part Time: 24 months
  • Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm, Monday to Thursday
  • Industry placement occurs in 2nd and 3rd semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
  • Hands-on components occur throughout the course

Teaching Methods
Teaching methods comprise supervised classroom learning, lectures, supervised practical components, work experience/practical placement and field trips.

Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable.  If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Accreditation
Qualifications granted by AFC are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). AFC National Training Provider No. 31717

Course Structure
The course structure of the Diploma of Facility Management will comprise achievement of a total of twenty-nine (29) to thirty-three (33) comprises from the national qualification. The units are made up of:

  • nine (9) core/compulsory units
  • eight (8) Stream units
  • Choose one of the following specialist units
    • Business development (6) units
    • Community recreation development (4) units
    • Frontline management (4) units
    • Human resources management (8) units
  • eight (8) elective units.

The eight (8) elective units of competency may come from any Training Package within the Sport and Recreation Industry (Community Recreation, Fitness, Community Recreation, Sport) or from any other endorsed Training Package from any other industry.

N.B. If a student is attempting the Diploma of Facility Management without having completed the Certificate IV Sport and Recreation or similar qualification, the student may be required to complete further pre requisite units additional to those listed above.
