Certificate IV in Football (Development)

This course is for football Development Officers, Operations Managers, Sport Program Managers or Coach Advisors who want to further their career with a football association or in local government or state/territory sport and recreation agencies.

You will acquire advanced technical, planning, management and leadership skills related to football.  You will learn about managing occupational health and safety, legal compliance, work team performance, conducting projects, developing proposals and implementing event management systems.

You will participate in the development of strategic initiatives and take personal responsibility and autonomy in performing complex technical and sports operations.

This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.

Entry Requirements
Completion of Year 12 or equivalent or non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies or Currently employed in the Industry

Program Duration
Full Time:  12 months       Part Time: 24 months
  • Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
  • Industry placement occurs in the 3rd and 4th semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
  • Hands-on components occur throughout the course.

Teaching Methods
Teaching methods comprise supervised classroom learning, lectures, supervised practical components, work experience/practical placement and field trips.

Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable.  If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Course Structure
The course structure of the Certificate IV in Football (Development) comprises the fifty two (52) units of competency from the national qualification. The 52 units are made up of:
  • five (5) pre requisite core units
  • nine (9) core/compulsory units
  • six (6) pre requisite stream units
  • sixteen (16) specialisation units from the functional area of development
  • sixteen (16) elective units
The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Certificate IV in football (Development) is 758 Hours.
